▢1 (16-ounce) package bow tie pasta ▢1 pound mild Italian sausage ▢½ cup chopped onion optional ▢1½ teaspoons minced garlic ▢½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional ▢2 (14.5-ounce) cans Italian stewed tomatoes drained and chopped ▢1½ cups heavy cream ▢½ teaspoon salt ▢¼ teaspoon dried basil ▢1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese divided

Step : 1

Cook pasta as directed on the package. Drain and reserve.

Step : 2 

Concurrently, sauté the sausage, onion, garlic, and pepper flakes in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring, for 4–5 minutes, or until the meat is no longer pink. Remove surplus fat.

Step : 3

Bring to a boil the tomatoes, cream, basil, salt, and a quarter cup of the Parmesan cheese.

Step : 4

Simmer, uncovered, with intermittent stirring, over low heat for 6–8 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened. Toss the pasta with the sausage mixture.

Step : 5

Serve with the remaining half cup of Parmesan on top. Video footage
